Over in Bulgaria (nezdrave!) we got featured once again on the legendary Balkan funk show “The 45 RPM Radio Show“. DJ’s Ilko and Lazy Face were featured, and our very own Eigen Funk Eerst 3 got played to close the show. This Mokum-Bulgaria funk connection was made possible thanks to Soulmate.

Rest In Peace: Stan Lokhin

This morning Surinam arranger/composer Stan Lokhin passed away at age 63. Billy Jones, Oscar Harris and his Twinkle Stars, Lieve Hugo (the King of Kaseko) and the Happy Boys are among the list of musical giants he brought to the ears of countless fans. Most of these artists’ tracks in our Eigen Funk Eerst series of mixes are produced by the late, great Stan Lohkin. Recently suffering from terminal illness, he lived as a humble but proud man, and in September he was finally awarded one of the highest badges of honor in his home country. May he rest in piece.

Bulgaria’s premier celebration of music, battling and everything hip hop is coming to Sofia, in its 11th incarnation. As a “young people’s festival”, Jam On It is all about love, friendship and happiness. Frank the Tank will be there for the second time, dropping some heavy funk bombs out there. He’ll also participate in panel discussions and generally battle anyone. Check out the Jam On It Facebook group and official website for more information.

For those not in the know, De Duivel is Amsterdam’s premier hot spot for beer, hip hop and straight up FUNK.
